I’m excited for whenever I see a certain friend of mine. Every now and then we discuss veganism and he (against it) actually provides arguments that are a little more intelligent than the stupid comments everyone usually makes. A lot of the time I know that there is an excellent counter argument but can never properly voice at the time. One of the arguments he has brought up a few times is that the factory farms in Canada are regulated more than the farms in other places and consequently aren’t as bad as I believe them to be. (apart from the point that their lives aren’t ours to take) So tonight i went through the acts and regulations that cover factory farms, boring as balls since they are filled with legal jargon that doesn’t relate to what I’m looking for… but anyways I digress… turns out the regulations that are suppose to make these farms better are pretty much bullshit. The few acts to prevent cruelty are outdated and only prevent abuse from an intending person, not the physical and mental abuse that comes from factory farming. Essentially as long as it falls under “standard practices” it is not considered abuse and is not prevented. For example, the barbaric practice of keeping a sow pregnant to ensure constant milk production, resulting in over milking and extreme pain) and filling cages with too many chickens (do I really need to explain why this is bad?) is considered standard practice, is not prevented, and happens. I am so prepared for this discussion. My research can’t even be argued, it’s the fucking Canadian government documents. Fucking A.
